So we have all heard of the engine removal 'trick' of laying the bike on its side, remove a few bolts, and lift frame off the engine. Well after numerous searches and queries (on the internet) I received enough people saying they have done this 'trick' with their Ironheads. Well let me tell you, its possible, but it most certainly is not a few bolts and lift. Its more like, Remove sprocket cover, generator, remove front engine mounting bolts, and slide back in revers for support, unbolt rear head from frame, lay bike down, unbolt front head from frame, unbolt rear engine mounting bolts, slide back out the front mounting bolts. lift frame, shake frame, twist frame, pull frame, push frame. swear at the folks on the internet for a minute. finally force engine out of frame.
So take it some a guy on the internet, those other guys on the internet are wrong. Its not that easy, though its probably still easier than trying to lift it out of the frame
Now I can get around to replacing the oil seal gasket!
Not really wanting to do to much more engine/frame work I decided to pull of the ugly triple tree cover that says sportster. Now its time to make a light mount.
So much still to do.
