Time for powder

What a start to a monday, up before the sun and a nice cool ride though brooklyn to my garage. Did some last minute cleaning, before Mr.Matt "always on time, never on time" landman showed up to help me haul the frame over to NuMetal. Its about to get a super sexy deep red coat.

Progress is being made!

1976 Triumph Bonneville T140V

Oil pump

fuck this engine is heavy.
I spent my sunday pulling off the oil pump and peeling 30+year old gasket off the pump. I wont even say how long that took. But there are new seals on the oil pump so that should be good, whenever I get oil running though this thing again.

The ride of gentleman

I am taking part in the 2013 Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride to help raise funds for research into Men’s Prostate Cancer. I'll be riding the 76 T140V Triumph, and ride to help find a cure.

An average of 1 in 6 men around the globe will be affected by prostate cancer, I am going to do my part to kick prostate cancer in the bum!

Please support me, the ride, or take part in your own way.

Full frontal

pulled the front end off, and finally got around to chopping off the headlight mounts on the top tree. No more sportster eyebrow for this machine.

Gone!

And after a quick clean, its looking pretty nice. Pretty soon that polishing wheel is going to be my bitch.

It looks alot cleaner without those mounts.

and here is how my bike currently sits, in a nice pile of parts.

The sexiest remote oil filter

I just picked up this remote oil filter from a fellow CC member, you can pick one up from here www.mooresensible.com

This is really going to class up the ironhead.

Plus it came with jelly bellys beans! win

Thanks for the help Internet

So we have all heard of the engine removal 'trick' of laying the bike on its side, remove a few bolts, and lift frame off the engine. Well after numerous searches and queries (on the internet) I received enough people saying they have done this 'trick' with their Ironheads. Well let me tell you, its possible, but it most certainly is not a few bolts and lift. Its more like, Remove sprocket cover, generator, remove front engine mounting bolts, and slide back in revers for support, unbolt rear head from frame, lay bike down, unbolt front head from frame, unbolt rear engine mounting bolts, slide back out the front mounting bolts. lift frame, shake frame, twist frame, pull frame, push frame. swear at the folks on the internet for a minute. finally force engine out of frame.

So take it some a guy on the internet, those other guys on the internet are wrong. Its not that easy, though its probably still easier than trying to lift it out of the frame

Now I can get around to replacing the oil seal gasket!

Not really wanting to do to much more engine/frame work I decided to pull of the ugly triple tree cover that says sportster.  Now its time to make a light mount.
So much still to do.

Hitting the bars

I picked up some sick internally wired switches from seesee motorcycle a while back. I held off on installing them for a hot minute due to not having the correct tap in my collection. I finally got around to picking one up, went to town.

Wiring these hi-drag bars from biltwell was a huge pain in the ass. The secret to wiring them, I didnt photograph. but ill let you know it anyway. Grab some bailing wire, and feed it in from the exit hole, out the entrance, I then twisted the wires around the bailing wire and taped the ends down. After thats nice and tight, slowly pull the bailing wire, and wires though. For the side with two switches, put two pieces of bailing wire up at the same time. wrap them each, then pull only one though at a time.

Sorry for no build pics, its been a while and I forgot I even had a build thread while working.

Time to chop a few inches off the ends of the bars.

I might go back and cut 1/2 an inch off for a slightly tighter feel between the grips and switches.

All thats left to do is find a lathe and open up the center of the mounting bolts to feed the wire down though.

**update**
Found a lathe under the fine control of Pete of second stroke mopeds. He was able to put some nice holes down the center of my bolts, if you know what I mean.
It really cleans up the bars and damn do they look sexy as fuck.
